AN AWARD. Sydney, December, 12.— The Federal Arbitration Court has given an award in connection * with tbo claim ol the Merchant Shipping- Guild of Australasia for the amelioration of conditions with regard to rates at pay. The -award . divides steamers into two classes — "A," passenger, and "B," cargo, and further, "divides into foutclasses according to tonnage. The pay for masters in class "A" ranges from £21' to £34 per month on a tonnage basis ; chief officer, £15 to £17 ; second officers, £12 to £14 ; and third officers £10 to £11. In class "B" masters range from £21 to !£31 1; chief officers (all) £15 ; second officers, £12 ; third officers, £10. The pay for fourth and fiftn aifficets on all ships is i£B. The award comes into operation on the Ist January,' and remains' operative" for three j^ears.
