PERSONAL. 4 Mr ¥. Pirani has been re-elected Chairman of the Wamganui Eduoation Boatfd. Mt M. J, Brookes, mamagor of the Dresden Piano Co. is in town. Mr and ' Mrs E. J. Holly, of Wanganui, are spending! two or -three days in New Plymouth, on tiheir way, to Rotoru'a. A most enthusiastic and crowded gathering was present at the Theatre, Hokitika, on Wednesday, when Mr H. L. 'Michel, Mayor of Hokitika, was presented by his supporters in the recent bye-election for Westland seat, with a purse of sovereigns, and <an illuminated address. Presentations were also made to Mrs Michel of an address and a handsome dressing case, and by juvenile supporters of a marble clock; Mr Michel and family were afterwards entertained at a social in the drill shed.
Tonnight th« Garrison Barad ball is to be held in the Theatre Royial. The arrangements effected at the hall leave nothing to be desired, and! with every probability of the weather remiaining fine, there should bo ■& large assemblage. The dance music will be supplied by Mr Turner's orchestra), and the H's.C. will be Messrs E. Humphries, Drunv-Ifllajor Lister, and Sergt. Flatt. The Band will paradle in De-von-st. this evening and march to the Theatre. 1 ' The well-known eyesight and spectacle specialist, Mr A. Green, D.5.A.0., oi Auckland, is now on a visit to (New Plymouth'^ and may be consulted daily from 31st August at the consulting room in Messrs Bewley and Griffiths' premises, Devon-street. Mr Green needs no introd'uetion to this district, where there are many people who can gratefully point to him as having! given them renewed sight. (Anyone who is suffering from defective vision, and who requires the use of spectacles, cannot ■do better than call at once upon Mr Green, who has come fully prepared to deal with any stage or kind of «ye trouble.
