FRENCH PRESS OPINION,

The Paris journal Le Temps considers Sir Anthony M'acdoneU's Sibylline announcement cabled on the 3rdinst. an official indication of a great i step, forward in the' direction oi "autonomy. Le Temps anticipates the Blight Hon. J. Brype will propose administrative Some Rule, particularly control of finances. Whenever accorded this scheme of local government, and the m'aooagement of finances are placed in the hands of Irishmen, the clamourous demands for a .National Parliament will lose much of its drastic necessity. Le Temps concludes: "Perhaps Mr Redmond's party will uncompromisingly oppose Mr Bryoe's generous proposal owing to its very generosity,, and. the beneficiaL effects it is sure to produce in a country where, British administration has been the cause of most of the evils afflicting- it. If so, the Nationalists will deprive themselves of every foundation- ' for their fighting attitude at Westminster, and deserve the s'fci'gmia of being only politicians caring more for Parliamentary positions than the in-s t-erests of their country."
