At the Supreme Court, Mr Justice Chapman dealt further with the case of Ann Foster, convicted of the manslaughter of the illegitimate child of her -daughter. His Honor was satisfied there was sufficient doubt as to the legal responsibility of accused for the child to make it desirable to state a, case tqp the Court of AppealAccused was released on her own recognisances to come up for sentence when called upon. (Alleged neglect, especially in respect to dieting, formed the gravamen of the charge.) Ohristchurch, August 13. The hearing of the charges of theft against Francis Henry Bruges, solicitor, and his clerk, James Goodman, was eomm'encecT. 'Accused are charged with the theft oit several sums of money, amounting in all to £1327 4/. Evidence was given at great length to show that money was paid to Goodman for Bruges for a mortgage, brut that the clients had not been able to get ' any deeds or money. Bruges 'became bankrupt, and proceedings elicited ihe facts on which the present charges were laid. Tfoefliear- j ing is proceeding.
