PURANGI MAORI CHURCH.
St. Mary's Hall was well filled on Wednesday '^when ia concert was held in, aid of the furtnlisihinig' Jund. of ifod. JBui*angi Maori ChfUEoh, a building 1 recently completed to aid the* .work of. the Maori mission. Considerable interest was taken in the nxture, the doors yielding •about £5, which 1 was 'auigtoejnted foy £"4 15/ realised |by "the 1 sale of some nicely - worked ' flax and rapU 'kit's sent in toy the Purangj natives as a contribution to the funds. The concert programme was an © x " qellent one in every respect. The appearance of Miss St. S'lair, a Wellington vocalist well-known, in musical chicles, was warmly greeted, and th<e visitor was encored flor ea/ch of her three songs. -"A\ May Morning" was (treated most artistioajHy, and the other numbiera the "Boma Song".. and "All Souls' Day. v Mr C. A. Mallett sang "The son® of the Bow;" and for her rendering of "The {Voices of the ' Past ".-. Miss Taylor was accorded the conrplimenlt of an encore. A.• duet "The ~S©a °^ Glass" by Mr and Miss Taylo* w a s also received witk marked approval. The Rev. F. Latter, of Tfttzroy, awd Mr A. 'Cowie were heaird in solo numbers. Pleasimg Variety was 'afforded by .Mr 'J.\ ; C. . Summer's oomic somgs, "Father Laid the Ca;rpet" toeirresistaMy] mirth-provoking. Dr. Home made- quite a success as a hVimourist with a lauigh'a'ble recitation on "Etiquette". .Mrs ' Pope obliged with a' .pianoforte solo "The Rustle loif Spring," also playing^ accompaniments, 'as did Misses Stan'dish and Bayly. A fine piano was kindly lent lay the Dresden Company. The ' Archdeacon, Cole, in the course, of' », descriptive address on the Maori mission, which is being conducted by' the Anglican Church, stated, -that-, there are w>w I three!, native missionaries engaged, " one eajoh at the XJrenui', Ra'hotu and Pu,t-a*gi mission houses.
