RAILWAY DEVIATION.
BRIDGES AND SUBWAYS TO BE
CONSTRUCTED^
The New Plymouth Borough, Council has received a further communication from, .the.. General Manager' of Railways (Mr T. Eon-ayne). The letter, whicfh is much in the same terms as that received by (Mr E. M. Smith,, M.H.R., and already, published, intimates that the request to submit the plans of the deviation to the Council cannot be complied, with.
"The' question: 1 of the - ! route to' be followied/' states the General ■Manager," has received' very j caireful coaswferattion. and the inland route, which has been' decided upon, is: considered to be the best route available. It is. broposed 'to pass , urider Devon Road,- and,. alsp,. intended thait all streets shall be crossed by -means of bridges subways over or under the railway. /This will obviate <the necessity for4public level crossings to which so mulch objection has been made in connection with the existing route."
