Speeches were niade by Lord r Pktnket, the Premier, and -life Mayor. " ' Auckland, October 20. Th-e Trafalgar Day celebrations passed off taost successfully in Auckland, the weather being favourable. In the morning the children assembled at the various schools,-- where the importance of, Nelson's great victory was impressed upon therrJ by the teachers, and the flag saluted. ! In the afternoon there was a large ! muster of the bluejackets of the Pro- ! metheus, veterans, and school cadets in the Metropolitan Grounds, where i Nelson's famous signal) was shown and j salutes firtfd. This was followed by % the children being entertained in the Drill Hall, at which -iiheve was a great; jl attendance, ' lnany'-being' * unable to gain admission. Tiife Mayor made an appropriate speech; ' and some pic- ( tures" were snown. ■■■'•.• ; When the second speaker rose to address the meeting, the children, who evidently expected to see pictures and, .hear music, and not to be 'bomjbard-' ed with speeches, made for ithe tioors, all efforts to stop tne exadus beingt futile. Under the circumstances, the; Muyor thoug-ht the best thing to doj 1 was to start' the l National ' Anthem, This was heartily ' taken up, and the meeting brought to an abrupt close. j In the evening a large meeting of citizens assembled in the \Drill Hall, when patriotic speeches lwere delivered by the Mayor and others.
