HON. J. T. PEACOCK, M.L.C Per Press Association. Christ church October 20. i The Hon. J. T. Peacock died this morning. \ (Deceased was the eldest son of Mr ' John J. Peacock, and was fooin in 1 827 in the Hawkesbury district of « New South Wales. He came to New Zealand when fifteen years old, and settled down in Canterbury as a merchant and shipowner. He sold out of that business in 1863, and visited England. He was a member of the Provincial Council in the early days, and Secretary for Public Works for L two- years. In 1869 he was elected,' member for Lyttelton, and /five ,years later was called to the Legislative Council. He was one of the original promoters of the Kaiapoi Wooikn Company, of the Union Insurance Company, and of the New Zealand Shipping Company. Deceased, who was twice manried, leaves a widowi and two stepsons.) •
