At the inquest on the Chinaman who hanged himself in his cell at Lyttelton gaol on Thursday night, medical evidence was given that deceased had committed suicide while in a fit of brooding depression, and a verdict was returned accordingly. Auckland, October 2. The petty officer who suicided on the Austrian warship Panther was nineteen years old. .When the list of promotions was ' made known on Saturday his name was not included amongst them, and it is said he became very depressed, which- is thought to be the cause pi the rasK act.
