(From Our' Own.' tk>r respondent.) A. meeting of "the School Compnittee was held in ihe schoolroom on Tuesday, | July, 25th, when there were present ;, Messrs Wareham (chairman.) „ Penwarden, Foreman, H'odson, and "W. Salmon, jour. iMr Penwarden was appointed to sign cheques in conjunction with the chairman, and it was decided to continue the committee's account with the Bank of New Zealand in preference to transferring it to the Post Office Savings Bank. The Inspector's report »was read and considered satisfactory. Mr Penwarden was instructed to attend to the chimney in the school without delay, and also to effect . some very necessary repairs* to the! entrance gate. J It "Was resolved to employ a man | to train the shelter trees, grub furze, and to do any other york that re 4 tjuired doing about th^ soTitiblground. Addresses from five candidates for three seats on the Education Board were read; but when the chairman Came to look into the correspondence which he had received from the Edit- j cation Board he found that it was too late, as the voting papers had to be sent in on th« 'i'ith bf tho month, whereas it was now the 25£h and the ballot papers had not even been supplied to the members of the' committee. This was a regrettable j oversight, and the consilience would] be that five good men, and true, ' who were anxious to sorve their country by 'recording Uu-ir votes in. favour of one or other of the live' candidates, would be debarred tho opportunity of gratifying tli*ir ambi- ' tionf The chairman admitted . that the papers had been in his posses- , sion for a considerab'^ time, but h» had neglected to open them. Five . votes are a consideration in an election, and had they benn judiciously exercised it might poswibly have put a different face on thp state of tho poll. It was arranged that a concert and dance for the purpose of raising funds to buy prizes for the school children, be held in the school on Friday, August 11th. A number of small accounts were passed for payment, and the meeting adjourned. An election of five members to form our Road Board took plact; on Wednesday, July 2oth. The ordinary election took place as usual, about two months ago, but owing to the botradaries of tine district havmg been > extended, . and a lot of new country at the back included, it became necessary — as soon -as all the legal formalities had been complied with — that another election' should be held. Our district now extends from the sea to the Forest- Reserve*. Tltere were seven aspirants 'for the five seats 1 , and a con- * siderable amount of interest was taken in tho event, the following persona being elected : — Messrs Pehwardpn, Honeyfiuld, Hint/-, Salmon, senr., and < Salmon, junr. Messrs Oxcnham and ' Hodson were defeated. ' <

A branch of the Young People's Forward Movement has been started here in the shape of a Christian.' Endeavour Society. The following officers were recently elepted :—Vice-pre-sidents, Messrs J. Penwarden and M. H. Smith : secretary, Miss West : treasurer, Mr Jack West ; orgardsts, Miss West and Mr Bent. The meetings are held once a month on a Monday evening in the local Methodist Church.
