MIRO.
\j,t "- ■ I (From Our Own Correspondent^ Not dead, but/ 1 sleeping !• That's what is the matter with us. an)d tike reason you have not heard from us for so long. Such is the tranquillity of this peaceful, charming stpot, and such is its many excellences in so many other directions, that we occasionally lose sight of the otatside hurry-scurry world altogether, in the contemplation of our own most gratifying condition. I am informed that of the land agents in yaur townr-they T have incurred the wrath t)f certain say they cannot deal in land in this neighbourhood bec&use of the weather reports which you have from time to time so kinfday printed. I am sorry if I am bad-, for trade, but can only say that an application of oil mSght have a beneficial effect on the weatKer (or on the report), and tihat 'oil of the palm variety is said to be the best. Consider what a delightful climate we have ! It is always fine in between the showers ; indeed, I have known an interval of as muoh as 13 days, in tJie past few months. Last month we had only 6.82 in. of rain, and this fell on 18 days in the month, leaving 12 days when we had absolutely no rain at all. What can one want better than that ? The mean barometer reading was 29.97 in. and the mean temperature for the month 52.71, only two degrees below temperate. Surely that should satisfy anyone of ordinary tastes. Then looik at the quality of the land I Deposited at the cost of much time anid trofubleby Mt. Egmont in days gone by, gjuaranteed thorougnly poronzs (except in a few spots here arid there where it is perfectly watertight), producing excellent grass that produces the butter that the Matetawa Dairy Factory takes so many cups witJb— surely a farm in this district is a thing to be desired of anyone with an earnest wish to get on. I can at any rate assure you of one fact, and that is that poverty is quite unknown in this district—^present company Qxcepted, of course !
We were exceedingly sorry to tear the Prince of Wales had a boil. There are one or two gentlemen here who have prom/ptly followed the fashion so set, and if you care to cable the fact Home I shall be pleased to furnish full particulars. We find a pidkle-bot-tle well heated the best remedy so far. What does the Prince use ?
