SYSTEM OF LAND VALUATION.

GERALDINE FARMERS PROTEST.

Per Press Association. Timaru, M'av 25.

A meeting of farmers at Geraldino protested against the present system of the valuation of land, and decided to form a Taxpayers' Protection League. Complaints were made that the (valuation jin the Geraldine district Wat* too high, and the Assessment Court was wrongly constituted. The abolition of the Court was.advocated, the valuing to be done by one man appointed by the Govern, ment and another by the Road Board or County Council, with an umpire in the ovent of disagreement, his decision to be final. The 'speakers contended that the valuers should personally inspect every farm and leave a note of the valuation to prevent the valuations being raised later on, as they complained that was, now often done. A strong committee was formed and representations are to be made to the Government.
