Divnedin, May 24. The trial of ex-constables for robbery of warehouses began to-day. Prisoners offered to plead guil ty to receiving-, bufc the Crown. Prosecutor refused to accept this. Counsel jurgtfd the Court Uo reserve the "point, and lEr Justice Williams said he would con* sidcr, but had no doubt of the validity of the Crown's position. Prisoners thereupon pleaded not guilty on the major (count. The Crown Prosecutor called evidence identifying the goods. Neither Mr Rim nor Mr Hanlon, who appeared for accused, called evidence, but Mr Sim said Moses desired to make a statement. Moses then said ho received 'the goods from Henry Rcddington, night watchman. Tie never entered the D.1.C., nor did he steal anything irom there. The jury, after four hours' retirement were unable to agnre, and were ? discharged. The Crown Prosecutor said he would ask for a relrial in ihe morning, and probably call Reddington as a* witness.
