POWER OF BOARDS. Tim Ofao-o Education Board forwarded to tin- local Board a resolution complaining- that the centralising tendencies of the Education Department were inimical to thel work of education, ami instead of Parliament diminishing the power of I Education Boards they should ■be extended on sound economic lines ; and it was also pointed ' out that better provision should be made for conveying . children in sparsely populated districts to central schools ; that the age limit of femrteen years for qualifying for obtaining free secondary education be extended so far as the country districts are concerned ; that adequate encouragement be given to induce capable youths to enter and remain in the teaching profession ; that in order to relieve the Department of teachers who have passed their years of usefulness a superannuation scheme be passed by the Government. The local Board on Tuesday decided to sufpjpiort all the! clauses with the exception of the one dealing with age limit.' to qtualify 'for free? secondary education. Per Press Association.
