A progressive eruc'hre social was held in the hall last. TJuesJday ovening, the result of wMch ntfust be very gratifying to the Hall Cojmjmit'tee, wn'o were responsible for the -tfurn out. About 20 tables ware iused to disclose the winners, which after two hours' solid play, and after 15 games had been finis-hed, res/ulteld 1 as follows: — Ist ladies' prize (a nanfcLsoine lafdiesi' companidn), iliss N. Barriball (jEgmont Eoad) ; Ist gents.' (prifce (a leather -bound purse and poidket-ibook), Mr A. Downer (Palmers'toh 'North) ; laidy's booby prijze, Mrs F. Sal way (ißell Block) ; gent's booby prize, Mr E. Handing (Fitai-oy). After tho pritecs hand , been presented by jVlr E. King, senior, who made a few Suitable remarks to earn recipient, the conxmittee. assisted by a nurriber of laidies, handed slipper rdtiin-d, which was greatly enjoyed by all present. Tho hall was then cleared for tdanJcing, in which abewt 40 cojn.pl os participated, ixrAd as the iraisic was in the 'hands r>f Mr Perry all talcing |)iart iv t!he "whirling pastime" th.oroaig'hly enjoyed themselves. The duties of IM/sC. were entrusted to 'Messrs T. Satojpsan anid H. Sal way, wjho kdpt things moving to the best, of their e/bi'lity. During the evening Mr L. Burns sang "The Skipper" and on rcffponklrng to an encore fairly brought down tihe house with "Enoch Brown." To allow Mr Perry "breathing room" oxfytfas wore playdd very artistically by {Masses Giddy and I^nn-dle. The danjeing closing at 1.30 a.m., all retired to tiheir "virtuous conches" halving spent a very enjoyable dvoning.
