The Rotoiti left New Plymouth shortly aftor noon on Th'uTsVlay, mid cm atiemjpthig to rotund Cape Egmont tho vessel ran into a hard, so'ut'h.-'oaster-ly g-ale, with a heavy 'head sea. CaJp-i tain Robertson docidad to slholter tinder the lee of the land, arvd anchored off Egmont at 4 p.m. Rain fell contiguously during the aftarnoo'n, Jjjut the weather mo'deratad slightly, and at midnight the voyage was resumed. As the Rotoiti was "/lying light/ anlcl the gale continued, though in a lesser 'degree, the vessel ocaupie'd twel/ve and a half hours under full steam from Cape Egmont to Slapihan Island. Thick rain squalls were mtacoUnnterad, and sprays swept rtver ilhv steam or, which, however, came through unscathed. The fourteen passungors wero not -Morry when the vessel made fast at the Queen's Wharf at 10.20 p.m.
