Tho urst was in Beiynanls haifdressing and tobacconist shop, Lanibton gg U ay, whore a good deal cf damage was done by lire and water. .While engaged at this fire the brigade 'was summoned to Newtown, where the . Rintoul-street public school, tthich accommodated 670 pupils, was on lire. The school and Jittinga - were totally destroyed, and the lossanust run' in to some thousands.
