Tho urst was in Beiynanls haifdressing and tobacconist shop, Lanibton gg U ay, whore a good deal cf damage was done by lire and water. .While engaged at this fire the brigade 'was summoned to Newtown, where the . Rintoul-street public school, tthich accommodated 670 pupils, was on lire. The school and Jittinga - were totally destroyed, and the lossanust run' in to some thousands. So far a"s is known, no one but tho cleaners had boe ; n ; in the school .since Friday night. Wellington, March 27. Lanksher's and other- premises on Laanbton. Quay! wore covered by insuradce in all .cases except that of a Chinese fruiterer. r Lankshcr's stock insured for £200 in' the Soiitli '-British, >£ISSO in the Alliance, £,900 in .the- Yorkshire, and £250 in the Northern, and the djunago is estimated at '£2oo or £300. Lanksher's building js owned by the Burne estate, and insured "for £500 in the Xorwich L'nion. v The other buildings, aru owned by D. D., Hyde,, and "insured for £400 in thfc. Victoria and ,C3OO in - the Coniniercial Union. . , Betmian's tobacconist • stock was insured for £650. Except at Lankshor*^; the ' damage is very slight.
