SOUTH AFRICAN CONTRACTS. IRISH AFFAIRS. United Press Association. — By Electric Telegraph. — Copyright. London, March 17. Mr Macnamara, Liberal member for Camberwell, asked in the House of Commons for the names of the contractors supplying 1,256,816 tins of jam to South Africa, each containing I- twelve ounces instead of one pound. The Right Hon. Arnold-Forster, Mini-, ster, for War, replied that the contracts were made in Australia through the Agents-General. The names of the contractors were unknown here. ' Mr Redmond, Chairman of the Nationalist Party, speaking at the Irish National banquet in London, said the political prospects were never better. Despite Lord Rosebery's fruitless denunciation of Home Rule tho Irish would support no Liberal Party taking- Lord Rosebery's view. Even if the Liberals were returned nominally independent,; of the Rationalists, the Government., would find it a sheer impossibility to. govern Ireland, for the Irish parity would make it so.
