Swimming.

A program me of swimming sports, | ,)iouioi(>d l)y the New Plymouth Swimming- Club, was held at the municipal baths on Thursday afternoon. Idyllic weather prevailed, and there was a large attendance of both ladies and {j-cntlcmeii. The various events, which were keenly contested and created much interest, were got off in good time, and no serious delays occurred. yiv W. Lintz was starter and handi•apper, and judged the diving events, .Messrs W. Newman and G. Tisch were judges in the swimming contests, and ihe stewards were Messrs H. Stocker. Kibbell and A. Standish. Mr C. Seabright, secretary, was responsible for ihe major arrangements, and with the co-operation of other officials succeeded in managing the siDorts in a very satisfactory manner. Appended are the results :—: — 50 YARDS HANDICAP.— S. Bennett (4sec) 1, Gibbon (2sec) 2, Seabright (scr) 3. Seven competed. SPRING BOARD DlVE.— Bennett, 2* points, 1 ; J . Stohr, 23 points, 2. Eight competed. 100 YARDS HaNDICAP.-A. V. Stohr (4sec) 1, S. Bennett (ssec) 2. Three competed. LADIES' RACE, 33 YARDS.— Miss A. Hutchison (ssec) 1, Miss V. Garner (scr) 2. Four competed. HJGH DIVE.— A. V. Stohr, 27 points, 1 ; A. T. Bullock, 22 points, 2. Four competed. POLO DlVlNG.— Bullock 1, Lintz 2, Seabright 3. Eight competed. SCHOOL BOYS' RACE.— H. Bailey (Bsee) 1, J. Bullard (lOsec) 2, J. Stohr (scr) 3. Run in heats. First heat : Bullard 1, Stohr 2, Heldt 3. •2nd heat: fl. Bailey 1, J. Stone 2, 0. West 3. Fifteen competed. BOYS' SPRING BOARD DIVE.-D. Laing, 27 points, 1; H. Blythe, 25 points. 2. A boys' polo match was played between teams representing East and West Ends, and resulted in a win for the former by three goals to two. The boys gave a very creditable exposition of the game, and were kept in good order by Mr Lintz, the referee. The final match in the Barlow Shield competition was also played between the teams representing the East and West Ends. and a most interesting <jame resulted. Dr. Walker held the whistle. At the end oi the first half East End were leading' by a goal to nil and scored two more in the second spell, while the West Enders were unable to lodge the ball between the sticks. The winners showed more combination than their opponents. j
