Anderson's powerful J> la - ' matic Company opened a season with 1 the sensational and stirring molo- • cl'x-ama. "A Sailor's SweothearL"' r J'hu ; tale of the piece runs on the usual i lines of the English drama. A -oung ! lieutenant in the navy is left a pot of j money by ftle death of a relative, but ■ iiis good luck is not known to him- { s^lf because he receives the good news ' in the form of a sealed packet which is not to be opened for twelve months. A disinherited nephew, who expected lhc fortune, soon gets on the | track of the lieutenant to obtain pos- i ';<v;sion of tho will and destroy it, and also to get the lietitenant's sweetheart. The villain makes several attempts on the life of the lieutenant on hoard ship and in West Africa, but ih-> l:i Her is saved mirac-ulomly on tach oeoasion. Finally the villain is • completely routed, and Iho. hero and the heroine marry and- live happy J ever after on the money left by " the old relative. A number of good comedy characters are intrcidured to ,dd variety to the plot. I The representation given by Anderson's Company on Thursday night v. as in every respect successful — the parts were well filled and the scenic «'fFocts excellent. The opening scene at Eockport, the scene on the ship, J and those in West Africa, especially' the one in the native village, were well staged. The dressing of the •-■hara.c- j ters was also carried out well, and added realism to the representation, I >!i<s Ada Guildford and !MV -jeorgc Ooso sustained the characters of Grace Mayland and Charley Clivc, the ' hero and heroine, in a mos'fc capabe ' manner. The unnatural character, ' i Phillip PombmtoTi, the villain, was in I the hands ot 3Fr C. Cass, who gave a pourtraval sufficiently callous to earn the reprobation of the audience. Mr .s'. P. O'Neill as Tim Kelly. a seaman. ' ' :md Miss Maisio Maxwell as Phoebe, ! [ bi.^ sweetheart, supplied the best part of the comedy, and were assisted by Miss Georoie Lcighford as Mrs Pembury, and 3lr E. Duggan as John James Pinkson. Mr A. Clark as Admiral Lofton.
