Hides,— The selection offered was small. There was good demand at previous prices. * , Tallow. — Firm ; unchanged. RA2VI AND iE^E FAIR. Per Press Association. Christclmrch, March 19. , There was a fair attendance at the ranif and owe fair, but some very fine specimens were penned. At the subsequent sales 4421 , sheep were catalogued. The shee.p v all lound were in gx>od condition, and, with few exceptions, a. very well bred collection. Efoglish Leicesters met .'outa moderate dcftn-antl, and the prices ".ore obviously disappointing to some of T he breeders, as several large x lines T*<ere withdrawn at auction, though some of these subsequently found buyers. Prices ranged frojn 2iV ■ guineas to 5 guineas, a few single sheep selling r,t up to 18 guineas, Shropshircs were a raiher mixed assortment. All good sheep sold fairly well, but inferior lots were neglectedw Piices varied frofm 2iguine/as to , 4£ guineas, v; ith a few single sheep to 7 guineas < Southdowns were well competed for, and' sold from 3f guineas to 5 guineas, single sheep to 91- guineas. Linqolns sold at from 2 to 4 guineas, a few single ones fetching 4-^> 5, and 6 guineas. Of Rontney 'Marsh a few only were sold at from 6 guineas to 10 guineas- Border Leicesters sold well at froni 4 guttieas to 12 guineas; Corriedale brought .from 3 guineas to 4-1 guineas, one twoshear running up to 12 guineas. Messrs Bayly and Company were the successfu tenderers for the metalling of the Mountain Road, and commence* work on Monday. The pari to be metalled is erne mile and thirty chains, and commences from the cliff downwards. A l Waiiii telegram states :*—Yesterday's enthusiastic reception of the Premier was a severe strain on him, he being engaged in public business lrom 9 aim. till 2 o'clock this jnorning. At seven to-day he started fr>r Tauranga on horseback., Yesterday's reception was the most cordial and enthusiastic political on 6 ever accorded here.
