An unusual event, a /treble dead heat in a classic invent, happened in the Wcstralxari Derby on Boxing Day. The
dead-heaters Were Mr L. H. oarlot's Keston (by Medallion— Salutation), Mr E. F. Darlot's Culroy (by Wallace— Hortense] and Mr T. O'Brien's Antean (by Antaeus— Anitas)'. In the run oft Keston won by a neck. The nominations received on Wednesday night for the Taranaki .Jockey Club's summer meeting must be • considered in every way satisfactory. There is a falling off in tne open events as compared with last year, but the largo increase in the so-called hack events have more than counterbalanced this shrinkage. Tho nominations for the hack events are the most representative jet received by the Club, Auckland owners sending in their favors pretty liberally. It has been suggested that the Club should run a double totalitator on the principal event and a hack race ea«'h day, and the suggestion should con .mend itself to thij Committee. The nominations' total 281) as compared with 255 last year. Novgorod (Siepniaki — Seasliell). a fine upstanding bay colt, (hive years old, be!'»)'TJ]|o- i () .I,l'(>.vsi's. I ,l'(>.vsi's K. ■>.
