Two Girls Drowned.
•t ,i - ; - ♦ Armidale (N.S.W.), Dec. 30. A shocking' drowning' case n r as reported to the local coroner this morning. Mrs E. C. Snape, of the Anchor Hotel, Wollomboi ; Miss Gardner, aged 18, domestic servant, and Miss Kennedy, aged 14, daughter of Mr Janic-s Kennedy, of Armidale, went to a v?aterhole in the Woolomboi River late yesterday afternoon, for the purpose of bofthing. It was thought the hole was shallow, but it had been washed out by a recent fresh, and considerably deepened. "When Miss .Gardner went in she sank immediately. Mrs Snape rushed forward to render assistance. She, too, went under. iSiiss Kennedy pluckily endeavoured to rescue the struggling women, but got beyond her depth. Mrs Snape's daughter ran to the hotel, and brought her. father to the scene.! He arrived juet in time to rescue' Mrs' Snfiupe only, who "was clutheing the. grass growing by the side of the stream* in an exhausted condition. The bodies of the two girls were recovered, but all efforts to restore animation ' failed. An inquest was held, and a verdict of accidental death returned. ,
