The Governor and party went to Rotorua by train yesterday- His Excellency was accorded a most hearty reception, and an acJdress' of welcome. In his reply Lord Plunket referred to the attractions of this Wonderland, and" thanked the townspeople -for their welcome. A lour of sight-seeing lia3 been" arranged, anß the Vice-regal party returns to Auckland on Friday. Dr. Mason, Chief Health Officer for the colony, arrived in New Plymouth by the mail train last evening, he haying accompanied Sir J. G. Ward, Lady. Ward and daughter from Wellington. ' The doctor was met at the station by Dr. Valintine, Assistant Chief Health Officer. He is staying at the Criterion Hotel. ♦ _, Col. Collins will l>e in New Ply- , moluth to-night. He will bring the Kolapore Cup and also the Colonial AmmMnition Company's' trophy, the latter being won by the Taranaki Battalion last year at Trentham. The many friends , of Mr Richard English, who was for< some time accountant at th> New Plymouth Sash and Door Co., will be. pleased' to hear that he has passed, the highest-exami-nation (Fellows} of the New Zealand Accountants' and Auditors' Association. ... Already several candidates are in. the field for Dunedin at the next general election. Mr H. D. Bedford, the prepent senior member, Mr G.i Lawrence, a City Councillor, who will most likely contest the Mayoralty next election, and Mr A. R. Barclay, whose pro-Bonr utterances largely brought about his defeat at the last general election', are all out for Dunedin North. Mr J. A. Miller will, contest Dunedin Central. Owing to his views on the liquor question, he is almost certain to be opposed by Mr A. S. Adam's, president of the New Zealand Alliance- At all events, the Prohibition Party intend to make * strong efforts' to' .induce Mr Adams to fi£rht his sea<t: Mr J. E.-Ar-nold will stand for Dunedin South, and with- d strong labour, vote, in his electorate he will be a. hard man to beat.
