MRS DARIUS SHUTTLEWORTH. Another of the early settlers of Taranaki passed peacefully away ear^ this mornln-. m her S6th year, :n the person of Mrs Darius Shuttleworth, The deceased lady (then Miss Spoorner) was one of the passengers on the "Emily Mitchell" which arrived here in February, 1854. In the following year she was married at; •the Henui Chapel to the late Mr Collins, who died on May sth, 1865. In j February, 1870, she married the late Mr Darius Shuttleworth, being again left a widow In December, 1901. During the Maori War she went with other Taranaki ladies to Nelson, returning when the troubles were over, hut losing a considerably (quantity of property. In the course of her lons sojourn, in this district the 'deceased lady made a large circle of friends, but c£ late years led a very retired life. Up to the time of her late husband's death, Mrs Shuttleworth enjoyed very good health,, but the bereavement came as- a , great shock, being superseded by frequent loss . of memory. "Ever since that time she has been more or less .an invalid, but owing to an exceptionally strong constitution she lingered on till about three o'clock this morning. Possessing &. cheerful disposition and many good qualities, she greatly endeared herself fr> those with whom she was intimate, and wag a staunch supporter of the Henui Church. Living to •ucli a ripe age she saw many changes in this district, and until re- j cently, her recollections of the early j days were very clear and interesting to the present generation. !
