Details tof the tragedy up the river ahqw that itoefcurred at Pungfcrehu. Tiwhft and htfujj^fe were sleeping in a whare with another native (Hone) And his wife (Hata). About 3 o'clock- on Saturday morning the latter were aroused by the deceased couple quarrelling. Suddenly, the woman ran across the whare, and threw herself ou the other two as they, lay down. The woman was bleeding profusely, j fiiom a cut in her throat. Hone jumped up, and caught hold of Tiwhft, who held a bloody razor in his hand. The former was tnrVmf, and ran out for assistance. After he left Tiwha again attacked his wife and billed her. Hata rushed to the rescue, and in the struggle with the murderer the latter <Jut her hand with the razor and bit her finger. She then rushed from thew&are, meeting her Kusband arid unfcle. : On retotrniag to the whare they found Tiwha outside with his throat cut'fcjjao, 4nd dying. Tiwha wai 24 years old and his wife 19. The throats wore cut almost from ear to ear. The whare was covered in blood, and is described by the police as like ia shambles. Jealotfey was eyid&itly the cause, the murderer not caring to see Ms" wile leave him, nven holding her foj| tho hand as they walked. At the im|uept a verdict was reftfum^ <>d that tho woman met her death at the hands of her husband, while temporarily insane, and that the latter Iwife leaves him, even holding her by insane.
