LIABILITIES.- The list of liabilities showed a total of £317 0/2s, aEjainst wliich there were several small contras. ' The largest creditor is W. Cottier, £118 10/6. In a statement to the D.O.A. bankrupt stated he started business in. January, 1898, on a capital of £40, lent to him by his father. The business was small at first, but gradually increased. He was solvent up to the fcime when a fire occurred in February, L 902. He reckoned he lost £300 owing to the fire. Having to borrow money to obtain fresh- stock and furniture put him behind, and since May the
business had fallen off considerably. This together with sickness in his family and pressure by creditors caused him to file. If business had looked up he would have managed to keep going, but competition was too keen and there were too many studios in the town for the population. There are a couple of secured creditors in the estate. i A first meeting of creditors is convened for 11 a.m. on Monday next.
