Uruti.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) The contractors (Cameron and Brooking) made a start with their metalling contract about a fortnight ago, and are making good progress. Providing they get fine weather they should not be long in getting it through. If the sand pump would not work at the breakwater the pipea belonging to it, used here on the above contract for shooting the metal I down from the hill top, works sp"len- I didly. The timber is > arriving on the ground to erect' the school in place of the one burnt, and we hope it will not be long before it is ready for use, as it is very inconvenient holding school in the hall now being used. The sports club have received good nominations their annual meeting and the committee are sparing no pains to have everything in good order. There are several new houses being put up and others to go up. Messrs Hunter Bros, are erecting a house on their holding. Mr W. Murray is going in for additions to his homestead, and Mr Walter Oxenham is erecting a dwelling on his property. Other buildings are in contemplation. The suppliers to the Crown Dairy who are buying out at end of season and who were trying to erect a cooperative factory in here find there is not sufficient cows to warrant the enterprise, and in all probability we will chip in with the North Taranaki at Onaero. There are rumours of approaching marriages very soon, and it is as it should be, as the young chaps are a very slow lot in here. I wish the above good luck and prosperity.
