This movement, taking Us ris< j at a conference of American and Canadian Students, lias spread from land to laud, until it has now assumed an organised form in Great Britain, Germany, Holland, France, Scandinavian countries, Switzerland, South Africa, and the Australasian colbrfics. The Federation unites 1,500 Christian Unions in over 40 countries, Mid lias a membership of over So, 000 professors and students (male a^ d fema.le). In the various colleges and secondary schools in Australia and New Zealand, there are about 50 Christian Union.-, (entirely undenominational) which constitute the Australasian Student Christian Union. Professors and students fr,om each colony assemble annually in Australia, ancl every two years in New Zealand, to receive lectures and discuss various topics affecting the interests- of all the institutions. This gathering is called
the "Theological Student Summer School." New Plymouth this month is to be honored with the presence of about 100 delegates irom all parts of Australasia, and the citizens are- asked to extend hospitality to the visitors during their stay, which will be from January 20th to 28th. The morning sessions of each Jay are devoted to lectures by professors, discussions and conferences ; a.fternoons to recreation, and social intercourse. Public meetings will be held each evening, to be adresscd by leading professors, ministers,, and students, the main subject being "Secrets of National Strength" arranged as follows :—: — (1) "The importance of the Individual. (2) "The Family as a basis of Society." (3) "Simplicity of Life." (4) "Purity of Public Life." (5) "Education and Recreation." (6) "Religion." The splendid receation and hospitality shown at Dunedin, Nelson, and other centres to these visitors should put us on our mettle. Anyone willing to extend hospitality co one or more lady or gentleman, will kindly communicate with the local secretary (Rev. F. A. Bennett) or Mr W. Ambury, Devon-Street, before the 10th inst.
