James Minefcan 'killed his wife with an axe, and was arresrted in the street whiJe attempting to cut his throat. His injuries are no* serious. He had been drinking heavily lately. .Received January 5, &.29 a.m. MURDERS BY NATIVES. Brisbane, January 4. New"s from German New Guinea reports a massacre of a European named Dowell, an engineer, Reinhardt, n trader's agent, two (Chinese, and tea friendly natives at the Kew Guinea Company's PeteAaven station. An attempt was made to kill a trader at another of the 1 -company's stations. At the latter place" a punitive expedition killed 25 hostile .natives. The disputes occurred over land -ransactions. THR SINGLETON CRAGRDY. Sydiiey, January 5. The tragedy near Singleton was the outcome of the mother's melancholia. She administered strychnine to herself and her three children.
