Mr E. G. Allsworth, J.P., presided in the Police Court this .morning. Rua and Jerry Power, two Maoris, who had been arrested ' at or* near Okato by Constable 'Lind, were charged that, on June 4th, 1903, at Okato, they stole £16 10/ from the purse of R. H. Keats, a settler in that district. This arrest is the sequel of a case of ' alleged stealing that was reported in these columns at the time. Sergeant Haddrell applied for a remand' for a week. The question' of bail Sam\ 'up; but \Mr.. Aljsworth ; .s'aid he . wonld us,e his discretion and refuse . bail. Sergt. Haddrell said if the accused gp/t put they would make a bolt forParinaka, and therto would- be trouble. in again arresting them. We regret to hear of the somewhat sudden °death this morning of Mr Frank Stanford, son of Mr R. LStanford, S.M. The cause of death was hoemorrhage. Poultry fanciers will notice by advertisement that Mr Newton King will sell by auction at his mart on Saturday next a choice lot of fowls from Captain Hood and Mr W. Cullen and Mrs E. Hardy. These are tip-top birds, and include some prize winners at recent shows. Both Captain Hood and Mr Hardy having secured champion prizes for .a number of their birds. The Tukapa Football Chib's tenth annual social to be held at the Theatre Royal on Tuesday, September Ist (the night of the Aucldand-Tara- " naki Representative Match), promises, to be as successful as in former years.
