The Mayor in answer tq Mr Brooking said he had not yet scon Mr McI'ntosh about the securing of land for Gill street extension, but he would make a special note of the matter. LETTERS INWARD. The letters inward dealt with by the Works' Committee were taken as read. jVIr Tribe, secretary of the Sash and Door Co.. wrote stating t(hat the Co. had votod £23 for Amr-y or Cover street tunnel. A letter was received from the TTarbour Board with reference to the opening of Arrki street behind the Town Hall. Chi Mr Tifioh's motion the matter was referral to the Works Committee. UK PLOSIVES. Mr Free, Inspector, reported on the i explosives stored in the Borough. He gave details of the explosives. Mr Collis said he had brought the | matter up to give the Fire BrigaHe the knowledge where explosives were stored. l]here was <?nou#h explosive mlaterial in some places to blow all the Kix'e Brigade siky hig-h. Colson wrote with reference to conditions imposed on his building improvements in Ciirrie street and those inj[posod on the National Bank. On Mr Brooking'g motion the matter was referred to the Works Committee to give Mr Colson a reply. SURVEY WORK. It was resiolved to insti^iot Mr'Sladden to s-uryoy pieces of laml required for the waterworks extension scheme. COURTENAY STRKIiT EXTENSION. Mr A. J. Hawsatron wrote stating that he was willing to sell an eighth of" an acre to the Council for £200 in oifder to give the Cojuncil an approach to tho Henui river. A discussion ensued as to 'whether it wrful'd not be advisable to bridge the stream, and carry the street to t(he Hospital Roajd. Mr Smith advocated that Courtenay street be carried to the Hospital Road, as it would prqve a good worfc in time. The Mayor said that £200 would form and make Courtenay street into Detvon street, and therefore, they neexl not give Mr Rawstron £200 for an eighth of an acre. On Mr Collis' motion it was decided that all Borough employees be in!striuct«l to report breaches of bylaws. HENUI BR'TiD,GE. Mr Bellringer moved. That, considering the urgency of the work, the E,n'gineer be instructed to complete plans for the new bridge in precedence to other plans. The Engineer said that he wcmkl haye the plans almost completed ' by next meeting. The motion was carried. Jn answer to Mr Brookiiig*tjio Eng-i-7ieer said a temporary bridge, say at Comrtenay street, would be needed to ta/ke t/ho traffic during the buflcling of Henui bridge. LAMP. On Mr Smith'H motion the attention of tin** Gas Co. will be directed ■ to a lamjp near Hehui brfdge. STREET SWEEPER. Mr Tisdi brqnght up the necessity of getting a street sweeper, and he moved that one be obtained.. Messrs Woofl, Bellringer. aiyL-Collis «upp r ortqd t/he motion, which was carried. Mr Collis said the contractors had put .up the price since he saw them. A QUESTIONED TALLY. Mr Colesby, contractor, waited on the Council, and sakl that ho wished to bring the question of the tally for carting to the stone crusher, before the Council. The Engineer .said the driver »kcjit the tally, and it was entered up. In Docombor Mr Colosiby was paid up for stone and he did not then question ithii tally. Mr Colesby stated ho considered it was an unsatisfactory tally when ho signed. The Mayor, and Messrs Wood, Smith, Tlhcli. and Brooking were appointed a committee to take evidence and report. Mr Brooking* also suggested that the committee should sec about tihe cutting up of the road by the contractors. Tihe Council rose at 9.20.
