There are twenty-six steamships in Montreal harbour awaiting the end of the longshoi*cmen's strike. The basis of a settlement submitted by Mx Mulock, Postmaster Ccneral, recognising the Union but excluding
foreign agitators from its provisions, was rejected on the ground that the Union was not fully recognised.
.GARDENIA'S DISPUTE.
Christchurch, May 11. This afternoon the Arbitration Court - received v the agreement come to between the Hardeners' Union and the > employers., and will fix the rate of wages^ . 'wliieh is the < only paint in dispute. Tho Court will, sit at Waimate on Wednesday and resume again at Christclwch on Friday morning.
