Charges Against a Registrar,
NOT SUBSTANTIATED. Per Press Association. Wellington, April 28. The Commissioners appointed to encpuire into the charges made against Mr King, Registrar of electors at Auckland, find that none of the charges were substantiated, and thcrefoi-ei have n.o recommendations to make to the Governor. Had fhere been more tirjip the errors would have been overcome. The evidence showed that Mr King's personal attitude had been conciliatory and . unobjectionable, though some of his letters might be criticised. " ' . " Speaking generally of the charges against Mr , King, the ' Commissioners) express the opinion ttiat there was no evidence to sup'nort the charge of corrupt motive, which is the gravamen of tne whole' accusation. There is, they _say, no evidence that Mr King discrfminatecj between parties claiming enrolment. ( , ; , The Commissioners acquit the Registrar of all charges, but make some comment on the. charge of inserting a name on the Grey Lynn roll after the. issue of the writ. On this matter, they add, .there is a mass of contradiction on both sides, and the whole circumstances are unsatisfactory and suspicious.
