(From Otir Own Correfjpondent;) t [ The Warea school and district picnic - was'held in the grounds? -attached 'to the hall on Thursday, January Aff usual of late the weather, did all possible to mar the enjoyment; \ the : morning broke with i*; succession ( s!;o"f heavy squalls from tnts a*>u^hreast;. but', the. local weather wise, having, held a i' consultation, . it was /determined •;, that it would clear in the afternook., The> judgment proved correct' but a verjr < cold i wind sprang up; t which, Jiad it > Lnot laeen for"- the^ shelter of a row of pines on Mr Binnie's land^ would* blare effectually^ stopped procjeedings, &*&[ whiSh) prevented many outsiders from!; attending. 'Mr , T. Julian, chairman.. J of the committee /had -provided; "a plen-' * tiful supply, of toys/ etc., lor. the children, and prizes for" school work- were* given to every child attending the school. Miss, Evans gave special,* prizes for map drawing,, which weregained by Teresa Murphy, Stephen Foot and Kate Aylward. The chairman announced that next 'year .there -■ would be' special prizes for attendance t given* by" the ' committee:/ - 'Games,.-' races, etc., were /the order of the afternoon. ' . '. " " ,» -* i The .recently _ formed cricket club made its .advent on the ground lent by Mr, Bennie and* proved, an interest-- - ing feature. Jfossibiy practice and . coaching will remedy some movements whicn are not in. tfee^game as played^ At "Lord^s." The club numbers >lr ready< about 28. member^ and will - likely be/able to, present ;a ,strpng - team in future! * , ' , r -Tea and dinner — strong features .in . Warea picnics —^were held *in the hall, ■ and the new" gastronomic apparatus lately purchased by, the n hall -trustees,': was used for the first time and added ■■ greatly to. thef comfort of the eaters.' in the evening- 1 the usual dance such, ceeded interspersed with songs -front Mr^T. Julian , (again to the fore) played most of the (accompaniments, while Mr W. J uliari acted as M.C. The evening being fine "drew several, from '■ a' distance who duly appreciated the enjoyment and sociability of Warea functions. The tables throughout the day were in charge of Mrs Julian, Mrs Miller, Mrs Larking, Mrs Clothier and pothers who well maintained their' reputation. , > --\
