Rifle Shooting.
THE TRENTHAM MEETING. j • COMPLAINTS BY RIFLE, CLUBS; THE PREMIER'S REPLY. / Per Press Association. / . Wellington, January 31. On Wednesday, last a deputation on "the Premier to- point" out certain v grievancea" of Defence Rifle Clubs regarding the programme, for the Rifle. Association's meeting at Trentham. % ; The Premier's reply on the points raised has- been -.fiurnisfoed in- writing. He points out. that the- cqmplaint abbut the amount of prize' money not. . being . fairly distributed between Rifle Clubs and volunteers is misleading, for if based on' numbers Rifle Clubs would only receive about £150, whereas £565 is now allotted for the events in which they may compete. . So far as the statement that many matches are not open to Rifle Clubs is concerned,! the Premier remarks that taking into consideration the relative numbers of volunteer corps and. Rifle" Clubs and their value to the State, ? there is. a very liberal proportion for the latter inasmuch aa "eight matches are open to Rifle C^ibs and nine are restricted to volunteers only. | Mr Seddon *ays that he is advised that' it, would be; unwise to alter the present regulations in order to^ substitute an age ; limit for th« present five miles limit from volunteer , corps for Rifle Clubs ; such a step would injure volunteering.
