NOXIOUS WEEDS.
To the Editor.
Sir,— -Accoriding to a local which appeared in Monday evening's issue the' Agricultural Department is using stringent .meas^rea for the suppression of the above. TJTntil recently I was not , aware that the Ragwort had found its way this side, of Egmont Village; but having occasion to drive o,ut that way on Sunday I noticed a /ew plant* in bloom on farms close to the road. Last week; white riding over my farrm on the Hospital Road, I was astonished at finding* no less than three plants being partly in seed. Now, Mr EditQr, there are do doubt several land owners close to New Plymouth Who have not a S;U£fpicion that ragwort is to be fauind so near home; therefore, as prevention is better than ouire, it is to be hoped that owners' will devote an hour or two in looking over -their holdings to prevent the spread of one of thfe worst weeds in Taranaki. The only safe way of destroying the plant is to burn 'H. Thankiug you in anticipation.—l am, &c., • STANLEY SMITH.
