THIS MORNING'S GALLOPS ATI RICCARTOJSf. ! (.Special to Herald). \ Christchurch, November 7 [ It was a fine morning and some useful work was done. Cannio Chi el and Glenaladale worked over a mile and three quarters at a good pace. Dwndas ran naif a mile in 50sec. Halberdier did two rounds on the plough doing the last four furlongs in 'A) sec, finishing well. Pallas did a nice gallop over four furlongs, in 50soc. Porirua and Tortudla did a good gallop over a mile and a quarter in 2min 13^ sec, the first six furlongs in lmin 19^sec. Porirua finished excellently, making a favourable impression. Welbeck Tseat Canteen over half a miie in 49^ sec., both travelling well. Achilles easily held Ghoorka at the end of six furlongs, run in lmin 16sec. Tsaritza and Petrovna moved well over -5 furlongs, the last four taking 50sec. Siege Gun is holding his place in the betting firmly, the best offer bo- ; ing sto 2 but there is very little money available. Jle is sure to start a good favourite. He is very well. Halberdier, , Welbgfik, Porirua, and Glonaladale are likely -to make the race interesting. In the hurdles Bellman and Evening Wonder have a chance ; Starshoot and King Log- in the Welcome ; Exmoor in the Maidpn; Bayonet in the Sapling : Rosemore and Oingo in the Welter, Magnificent and Clanburn in the Ladies Purse ; Lady Lillian^ Ghoorka, Red Gauntlet, and Pallas in the Stewards.

The dredge, Thomas King, is doing splendid work now. On Thur? day she took oui 17 loads of spoil, her previous record for the time being 13 loads. At this rate the slight accumulation caLsed during the time she was laid up will soon be removed. The Finance Committee of the Education Board met this morning. It is understood that Mr Spencer has agreed to continue on as Chief Inspector, and the Committee then decided to advertise for applications for the position of second inspector. In the Police Court on Friday morning J. Douglas was fined 20s and costs, in default 7 days, on a charge of insobriety. A prohibition order was issued against Douglas, also one against a man namod Tickner. Cornwall's Estudiantinaßand kindly gave their services, and contributed several pleasing numbers. Mr |Collier also assisted by giving a ventriloquial entertainment. The ladies who provided the supper catered well for tno patrons of the social.
