Valuable Bequests.
ENCOURAGING ART liN AUCKLAND. Fer Press Association. Auckland, November 7. Mrs Mackechnie, widow of the, late Edmund Mackechnie, died this morning. Carrying out the wishes of her husband, she has bemieathed a valuable library to the City Council, £'2, 000 to the Auckland Institute to purchase scientific works arid £500 for general purposes for iho Institute ; also £2500 for the erection of an art gallery for the Auckland Society of Arts.
