Royal Colonial Institute.

ANNUAL DINNER. United Press Association. — By Electric Telegraph. — Copyright. Received May 2, 9.45 a.m. London, May 1. — The Royal Colonial Institute dinner was held to-day, there being 220 guests, including a number of Australian ex-Governors, the AgentsGeneral, and prominent colonials. Earl Grey, who presided, recommended the creation of an order of membership in connection with the Institute, the members to be styled as associates, so as to enlist wider sympathies, especially of artisans, on behalf of the union and de velopment of the Empire. He predicted that thus they could raise annually £100,000, to bo applied to- the collection and diffusion of information which is of value to statesmen and citizens. He hoped the conference of Premiei s would not separate without paving the way for Imperial Federation, even if it involved some material sacrifice on the part of both the Motherland and the colonies. Mr Copland, New South Wales AgentGeneral, suggested that each of the Prince of Walt s' children should bear a princely title, associating Royalty through the first child with Canada, the second wtth Australia, the third with New Zetland, and the fourth with South Africa. Admiral Seymour paid a tribute to the naval contingent sent with the gunboat Protector by South Australia to China. Lieutenant-General Sir Leslie Rundle commented on the work of the colonial contingents, saying as a result of the war the British Army and colonial contingents would ever recognise the bond of comradeship.
