(BY "DEMON.") ' x On Saturday afternoon the Town Club's courts weref ormerlj' closed for tha season. Dr. Leatham, in a bri«f speech, complimented the club on the success of tue season. He had played on the courts for many years, and could not remembftr- a more successful year. Things had gone smoothly all round, the icourts had been in good condition, and " the game " had generally been played well. They were especially indebted to their secretary (Mr Strouts), to whose energy and care this result was greatly due. Few who had not " been there " themselves, knew what a large amount of work the secretaryship entailed. The several tournaments and matches held had been sources of much interest and the results had given general satisfaction, Mrs Leatham then presented the trophies won during the season. The trophies were : — Ladies' handicap doubles : _ Miss Walker (jewel case), Miss Hawken ' (greenstone pendant). Meu's handicap doubles: Griffiths and Brown (set of silver-mounted clothei brushes) ; the trophies in this tournament were donated by Dr. Walker. Ladies' handicap singles : Mrs Johns (silver-mounted cloihes brush, silver shoe lift, etc). Men's handicap singles : . Griffiths (set of razors) ; the trophies were donated by Dr. Leatham. Combined doubles : Miss Berry (silvermounted purse, donated by Hayman & Co. per Mr J. Taylor), Turton (trophy presented by Mr C. W. Govett). The club gives the championship trophies, which are a Slazenger "Demon" to Miss Thomson, and a barometer to Mr A. L. Tuke. ' .
