THE MAYOR'S SUPPER.
After the presentation of prizes by the Mayoress iMrs Dockrill) the Mayor enI tertained the Executive of the N. 1.8.8 j Association, visiting bandmasters and officers of the Contest Committee at \ supper at the Criterion Hotel. After the toast of "The King" Mr Dockrill proposed the toast of-the ''N. 1.8.8. Association." Mr Cohen replying referred to the splendid organisation of the local committee. Mr Dockrill then proposed "The Judges." Mr .Schwartz, in replying, said that at no previous contest had he been so pleased with his awards and the public so satisfied. Colonel Watt also replied, and hoped that when the surplus was divided the Taranaki Garrison Band would nob be forgotten. After the toast of the bandmasters, 51 r Cohen proposed the " Local Committee." He said that as a mark of the appreciation of the services of Mr Dockrill (the Mayor) and Mr Haigh (Taranaki Garrison bandmaster) they had been elected "Vice- Presidents of the Association, posi tions which he hoped they would accept. As President of the Association he wished to know the feeling of the bandsmen as to the unfinished competitions. - Baudmasher Cook (N.G. Valley);proposed, aud Bandmaster Burton (Granity Creek} seconded, "That all unfinished competitions be struck put." This 1 was carried unanimously. The' local committee will return all entrance fees. Special mention is due to Mr and Mrs O'Brien for the supper provided at fifach short notice, and which was so much appreciated by those'present, . i The executive committee. (Messrs E. Dockrill, chairman, J. C. Morey, secretary, D. McKinnon Bain' director. F; S. Johns, W. A. Collis, G. Msch, "W. J. £haw, T. P. O'Leary, F. W. Richmond) has been a specially "live" one and should feel very pleased that its bard work and , enthusiasm have been so well rewarded. Things have run with amazing smoothness at the Theatre, under Mr McKinnon Bain's able directorship, and not a hitch nor any annoying wait has occurred. Too much praise cannot be bestowed on Mr J. C. Mor^y, senr , for his execution of the many and various duties of secretaiy. His untiring cnerty and unfailing courtesy have been mo3t marked, and one might almost say, without exaggeration, he has livod for the contest for the last few months. Frr>m a pressman's point of view Mr Moray has been ,an ideal official. So many of the competitors having ha<i to leave town today, the B flit slide and G slide trombono and E flat cornet competitions were scratched, and competitors had their entrance fees returned to them. The ladies committee canvassed enough in refreshments and cash donations to supply the afternoon tea at the Recreation Grounds on Thursday, without having recourse to the Executive's cash box at all. Mr Bennett's medal for the best side drummer in the marching contest goes to the Waihi man, Robert Cox. Band Contest.— Photos of Marching Competition and Recreation Grounds. Bandsmen requested to book orders at B.arllett's, opposite Theatre Royal, New Plymouth."
