OBITUARY.

MR DARIUS SHUTTLEWORTH.

After a painful and protracted illness, | we regret to learn, Mr Darius Sbuttleworth died on Friday night at bis residence, Fitzroy, at tlie age of 70 years. iMr Shuttjeworth, who was a native of Kssex, came out to NTevr Zealand with bis brothers in the ship Bunk of England, landing at Auckland on Decembor 27th 1855, and coming on to New Plymouth i in the brig Oco^n, arriving here on January 3rd, 185 S. After spending a few years farming on the Old Hospital Road the family had to come to town on account of the outbreak .of war, and in 1863 the brothers established the business still carried on by Mr Alexander Shuttleworth, as .timber merchants, ironmongers, and general importers. Some ten years ago failing health caused, Mr Darius Shuttleworth to relinquish active, -work. H,e_ continued for some years: however, to interest himself in the Gas Company and Taranaki Land Buil ing and Investment Society, of both of which hawas a director. He also was an active worker in church matters, taking a keen in Te Henui Church, which owes a' great deal to his energy. - " " ' ■
