FOOTBALL

A football match is being arranged to tnke place in tho Recreation Grounds next Thursday, the proceeds bring for tho benefit of " Tommy " Carter, the Taranaki representative, who was injured in the match against Auckland. Efforts are boma; ninde to obtain tho use of the Grounds free of charge, and seeing iv obic»ct for which the match is being arranged we have no doubt that the Board will be able to make this concession. Mr Ambridge has kindly donated 400 tickets, and tho TTi'vnld and News are advertising tho match free of charge. The teams are being selected from Star and Tukapa players, and the public may reIv on seeing a good "go " for their money. The tickets, which are only 6d each, are selling very rapidly, and wo feel sure the committee will be able to hand over a very substantial sum. Tickets may be obtained from Messrs J. Elliot, IT. M.Miott, A CJ. Bishop. F. Stohr. and other members of the committee, or from the secretary, Mr F. T. Bellringer. A football match was played between the Fitzroy junior team nrd tho 801 l Block juniors at Bell Block on Thursday, and restilted in a win for Bell Block by 9 points (3 tries) to nil. Although the Fitzroy team hnd a strong wind in thoir favour in the first spell nnd a heavy team, they wore outclassed by the. 801 l Block backs, who showed better combination.
