GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF NEW ZEALAND.
LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. (PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.—ABRIDGED.) Friday, July 19. — The Hon. the Speaker took the chair at 2.30 p.m. The Young Persons Protection Bill was partly considered in Committee, and no amendments were made. During a discussion on the permissive clause, Hon. G. McLean stated that the Bill, if passed, would remain a dead letter like the Inebriate Homes Bill. Hon. W. C v Walker replied that the Inebriate Homes Act was not a dead letter, and that he trusted it would shortly be in full operation, and an institution was in process of reconstruction for giving effect to the provisions of the Act, and in all large hospitals special facilities were to be given by the Government for providing such accommodation as might be required for chronic-or violent cases. The Cyanide Process Extension; Public Health Amendment, and Chinese Immigrants Amendments Bills were read a second time, and the Conncil rose at 4.45 p.m.
