FIRE.
,t TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — I was recently travelling in the North Island, and more than once heard the statement made " that the Convent at New Plymouth was practically without any, proper extern of fire escape." ' Out-siders-have tip opportunity of knowing the truth ofe^put erwise of these statements, but at the question involves such awful consequences, I think the matter, ought to t^feet at rest. If *the~seT«ra6urs " hjaye no foundation;" there can be no harm in clearing them away .—I am, &c, Resident op Christchurch. [Since the appointment last week of a j£Fire Inspector the building in question conies under his control,- and we understand that steps are already in- progress to remedy the defects.-^Ep. T.H.] ,
