HOCKEY.

The Carrington Boad Hockey Club travelled to ijaweraon Friday, July 12, to play the Hawera Club. The Hawera Club won the match by 5 goals to 1, the. goals being scored by B. McCarthy (2\ L. Elliott (2), and A'Court (1), \»hile for Carrington Road H. McEwen shot, their only goal. The, game was aAirly. fast one, but was played under a great . disadvantage, the groundbeing .very, muddy ; so much so in ; fact that the players were, simply smothered in mud from head to foot long before half time was called. Mr Payne, of Hawera, refereed and gave the greatest satisfaction. The visiting team were, entertained to dinner and tea jby the Hawera Club, who also gave them a good send off from the station when they left The Hawera team intend to visit New Plymouth shortly and make a stay of two days thus enabling them to play both the New Plymouth teams.
