STO'TK As*D SHARE MABKET.

T have no transactions in shares to report this week, and there is no material change in price of investment stocks. N.P. Sash & Door are wanted; butholdera prefer to draw the accrued dividend before selling. The balance-sheet has been issued to shareholders and discloses a very satisfactory result of the year's business. It is recommended that a dividend of 7J per cent, for the half-year be paid, which, with 5 per cent, previously paid, makes 12$ per cent, for the year,

and a consider ible sum is carried forward to new account. The Directors evidently believe that " brevity is the soul of wit," as their report is as brief as it is possible to make it. The figures are, however, eloquent, and tell the tale of a well-managed, prosperous local industry. It is, indeed, most satisfactory to know that this company hae been so successful, as it was at one time in financial difficulties, and a meeting of shareholders was called for the purpose of winding up the concern, but the Chairman (the late Mr T. King) and Mr Connett were strongly in favour of hanging on a bit longer. It was an anxious time, as the Directors had become personally liable for the Bank i overdraft. The Chairman's argument prevailed, and the tide turned. The Company is now a prosperous concern, giving employment to a large number of workmen and paying royalties for timber which would otherwise be destroyed to clear the land. About the same time the New Plymouth Public Hall Company — but that is another subject which perhaps may be referred to later. New Plymouth, 12th July, 1901.
