IMMIGRATION.
TO TUB EDITOE. Sir,—l bave just read Mr Hughes' letter on the above, and as a settler I can quite endorse bis remarks on the scarcity of labour. If what he says about Mr Seddon is irue then the sooner he is turned out the better. Is it reasonable to suppose that the country can progress under the present unfair condition of the labour market ? Where one class have it their own way, and the employer has to pit up with all sorts of annoyance and indignities to get his work done. We also want good and well trained domestic servants introduced to fill the demand that the country is requiring. This is the duty of the Government. On account of the scarcity of the domestic servant another individual has stepped in, to the servants' detriment. I refer to that peculiar combination called the lady help. I am told by those fit to judge that they, as a rule, look down on the domestic, and often on their employer.—l am, &c, Settler.
