Received April 3, 1.18 a.m. London, April 2.— Commandant De Wet and Mr Steyn are going to meet Commandant Botha in the Ermelo district. In the House of Commons, Mr Chamberlain said Sir A. Milner had been instructed to inform the Swazi Queen that the Swazis should remain quiescent, and after the war their desire for British protection would be remembered. The announcement was greeted with Ministerial cheers. Mr Chamberlain, in the House of Commons said the Government had been legally advised that Britain had not derived from annexation the right to exact reparation for any damage done to the Republic by the Jameson raid. The Chartered Company was not liable to compensate Britain as representing the late Republic. Received April 3, 9.39 a.m. London, April 2.— The members of the Irish Nationalist Party are considering the suggestion that one of them should temporarily resign in order to allow Mr J. X. Merriman to be elected to tho House of Commons, so as to allow him to address the House on the question of the settlement of South Africa.
